Description
The HI3830 portable bromine test kit determines the bromine level in water with efficiency. The first step involves pH adjustment of the sample to pH 6.3 by adding pH buffer. The second step consists of adding the second reagent, an indicator solution which contains DPD (N, N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine). DPD is immediately oxidised by bromine producing a reddish colour. The colour intensity of the solution determines the bromine concentration.
Bromine, because it is stable and less volatile than chlorine, is utilised as a disinfectant in swimming pools, spas and hot tubs. As with chlorine, excessive quantities of bromine in water can be dangerous to health and can cause eye irritation.
Daily monitoring of bromine concentration prevents damage to equipment and contributes to the optimisation and efficiency of the process while providing for increased user safety.
